Nothing's Easy

Yes, my dear, nothing's easy.
Most things are hard, the rest
we make hard for ourselves.

Sometimes
the best we can hope
to bear is to open
ourselves to light,

to  r e f r a c t
                          our suffering . . .

  1. Travis, I saw a version of this when we were at YDS. I love the light/prism metaphor. Not sure about the spacing though of the word refract; maybe visually distracting? too cute? And you truncated what was a much longer poem! Why? Can you, for kicks, re-post the earlier, longer version?

    1. I'll have to dig back into the files. If I find it, I'll post it for compare/contrast. If I'm not too ashamed of it.

    2. 'Post it for compare/contrast'! Yes, no shame in that! Bring it. Or dig for it. Or bring back from the ashes. O, forget it.

  2. Nice, Travis. "Hope to bear" is especially evocative--great title for a book or a poem.
